I didn't even use the remote since the last battery change (month or 2 ago). It's the xbox/media center version one.

I notice sometimes it will kick on if something around it moves, but I don't think this is fairly often.
It also has one of them RF transmit battery shells in it, could this cause a constant drain even if no buttons are being pushed?
Do I need to push the power button to turn it off when I am not using it?

I'll probably just throw it back in the closet, but It would be neat to use it, it was expensive, but not worth 4 aaa batteries every other month.

Not sure what Harmony you have, but I have a model 550 that I have had for over 6 years. Mine does not drain the batteries that quick (may be every 4 months). Plus, I picked up a set of AAA rechargable-ables and just put them on the charger when then finally run down. Have been using the same set of recharge-ables for over three years.

I think he has the xbox 360 model which is very similar to the 550. I have a couple of the xbox 360's as well and never had battery issues. Could be a stuck button or motion switch. But my guess is it's the Next Gen battery. Rechargeables will discharge just sitting doing nothing. My advice is to use all rechargeables and recharge every few weeks as necessary, if only to save money on alkalines.
