So I'm not able to use the URC remote with the directv boxes if the cabinets are closed?

I'm not sure if this is related to me setting up the new functions for the controllers because I did not touch anything other then adding the functions for the directv but now none of the components work with the door closed....

I just bought a new X-8 which is basically an MX-890 and I'm looking for some custom activity icons. I have done a Google search but didn't have much luck. Do you guys know of any sites that have some available?

I'm looking for these ones hopefully in the same style/color.
DirecTV
Apple TV
Blu-ray
HDTV (Antenna)
HTPC (or Windows Media Center, or Media Browser)
PS 3
PS 4

You need to set the DirecTV box to use IR in the actual directv setup.

The same style as each other (e.g. all black, blue, etc.).

How long has Best Buy / Magnolia been selling the X-8? I hadn't heard of an X-8 version of the MX-890 before.

Blackman customs sells complete packages with graphics.

If you are using one of the URC defaults and just need a few missing buttons they include blanks and it is easy to make new buttons.

I started seeing them around 4 months ago. I don't know how long they have carried it. I don't know what the difference is between it and an 890, but it does everything I need it to do and the programming is exactly the same.

Your's is the first post about an X-8 that I've seen on any of the forums I frequent. I wonder how long before they show up on eBay.

I'm sure it is like the X-7 vs MX-780. The only difference is that the 'M' & '90' was removed from the MX-890 nameplate.

Wow, there's a used one on Ebay right now ( item number: 181846626316). I also hadn't heard of it until now.

Looks like Maganolia / Best Buy are carrying quite a few URC Remotes.

They're carrying both the URC MX-780 and the re-branded X-7 version. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Why bother re-branding if you're going to sell both of them for the same price.

I wonder if they include the software - or do you have to have their Geek Squad program it for you.

Software is not included. You have to get it yourself or have it professionally done. I don't know of any dealers that give you the software with a remote purchase.

There are some dealers that will give you the software if you purchase from them. One I know of for sure is 'Surf Remote Control'.

URC leaves it up to the discretion of the individual dealer whether or not to give the end user the programming software.

HI, I bought a home theater system several months ago. The other day my MX-890 looks like its memory got erased and it does not work to control my system anymore. The installer gave me a flash drive when he installed everything with the remote control custom file along with a lot o mp3 music files. He forgot to provide the software. I tried to call him to come fix my remote but his number is disconnected. IF someone could send me the software I believe I would be able to get my remote working again using the file he left me on the usb thumb drive. Please help!

It sounds like your MX-890 is defective, but it has a one year warranty. I'd have your receipt handy and contact URC and explain to them that you cannot get ahold of the CI that installed it, and see what your options are. They may be able to contact your original CI, or maybe set you up with another one in your area that can help you or facilitate downloading your file to a replacement remote. They could do this at their office - no need to come to your house.

Failing that, maybe you could send the defective remote to URC along with a copy of your CCP file and they can download it to the warranty replacement remote before sending it back to you.

My first attempts at making buttons and backgrounds for the MX-890 /X-8. I'm obviously no photo editing superstar but I'm learning.

Good Afternoon Gents,

I have an MX-780 URC remote and the CCP software (looks like May 2010 version) from my dealer. I originally programmed this remote about 2 years ago and have since upgraded PCs. I kept my install app from the dealer and just loaded it on my new PC however CCP does not recognize my MX-780, nor is the MX-780 an option to start from scratch with.

I'm a little puzzled since I was able to program 2 years ago and I haven't updated the CCP software... of the MX series, CCP only shows the 880, 900 and 980. The program won't load my MX-780 template nor download my programming from the remote.

Any thoughts or guidance? Obviously, there is the "contact your dealer" solve-all but as you well know, us programming our own remotes is money NOT in their pockets. I hate to troubleshoot with the dealer that is doing me a favor and not making the extra service call money he could otherwise collect.

Thanks for the help,
Philip

Run it as administrator and run the live update. The original CCP install was before the addition of the mx-780

Comment on the reliability of the MX780 - we've had ours for three or four years and it's been terrific. It's outlasted a Doberman, spilled wine, hard drops to the floor. No complaints here and would definitely buy another!

Honey, have you seen the remote?

If your mx-780 is under 4 years old, it has darkening screen, URC will replace it. I guess they are going from OLED to LCD screens. 4 years is well past the warranty period. Contact URC.

Well that's quite an about-face. I contacted URC early this year complaining about my OLED screen going so dim i that could barely see it and he denied there was an issue with their OLED screens going dim, and said he couldn't do anything for me since my remote is a few years out of warranty, other than selling me a replacement at full list price (which i declined).

My R40's OLED screen is now impossible to see, and there are like six other reports of dim OLED screens (R40 and MX-780) in the Official R40 thread and i've seen several dim screen MX-780s on EBay too.

Looks like they now acknowledge that there IS a longevity issue with their OLED screens. Switching it to an LCD screen is a great move going forward.

Where did you hear about this if i may ask?

Hi, was wondering if anybody, could point me in the right direction, to get the CCP software to program the URC MX 990 or MX890 remote. A couple of members, have asked before, and no one seemed to have replied I've noticed.

Thanks, Walter

Garrett Adams;
Did yoi even have the keypads replaced (in or out of the 'extended' warranty for that model)??

Apple-Man;
Some dealers may provide a copy. PM me.

.
Free, abundant OTA television separates this country from many others. ATSC1 has only been in force since 2009. The wireless industry has enough spectrum. Enough of 'planned obsolesce'.

No, but the Skip+ button is a little flakey. I did buy a recommended Permatex repair kit but I haven't got around to using it yet. Today my MX-900 is mainly used to turn my system on and off, plus a button to switch to an Amazon Fire TV an one to go back to cable.

Since moving to Windows 10 I stopped using WMC for OTA use since I now have a Comcast 6-DVR tuner cable box. The Xfinity XR-11 voice control remote control has become main remote for everything except streaming.

On another note, URC recently announced the new MX-990 that will be released around the beginning of 2016. It looks like a blend of MX-980 and MX-890. I like it, especially the four colored buttons that are so popular now. List price is only a little higher than the already excellent MX-890.
