I'm glad I found this board!

I have a Samsung Plasma PN50A650.  I recently moved and can not

find the remote.  I saw a couple of remotes on Amazon that are

generic remotes that "claim" to work with my TV.

Will a generic remote work?

I don't watch much "TV", but would like to watch it occasionally, especially

with the Stanley Cup & NBA playoffs happening.

BTW... any info on the cheaper generic remotes sold at Best Buy?  I

hate that store, but would force myself to shop there one time, just to

get my TV up & running again..

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

The best cheap remote, IMO, is the RCA RCRP05B. It will work fine with your TV, and unlike other cheap remotes, can do every possible function of almost any device without needing to learn from the original remote. I'm not sure if they're at your particular Best Buy, but you can get them at many other local places.

Thanks for the tip.

I can not find the RCA RCRP05B anywhere around here.

Got any other suggestions?

... also try Staples, Office Depot, Walmart, Sears, Walgreens, Radio Shack, Target. RCRP05BR is identical to the RCRP05B. The setup code you need to use is TV 0812.

Bummer... some of them have this remote 'online'' but not in the stores.

Big NBA game tonight.

For the most part, or "any" of the 4 or 5 device aftermarket remotes ok

for a Samsung TV?

I'm using the 6 device and 8 device versions of this remote with Samsung TVs and they both work fine > http://www.bestbuy.com/site/4-device-universal-remote/1088116.p?id=1218219329422&skuId=1088116&st=rca remote&cp=1&lp=5.

I could not find that remote here locally, so I bought a One For All #oarusb04g.

Will the setup code TV 0812 that you gave me work for this control?

Is that a code number for any remote for my tv?

BTW - where did you find that code?

Yes, same code. Press TV, hold setup for 2 blinks, enter the code. That's an excellent remote BTW. I have one too. It has some nice macro capabilities and a great layout.

Each remote maker uses different codes. Coincidentally, UEI makes both one-for-all and that RCA I suggested, hence they have the same codes.

I found them from the links in my signature plus some detective work when opening the device upgrade file for your TV found in the JP1 file section, and the fact that most samsung TV codes haven't changed in 15 years.

I doubt this will help with TV 0812, but in general for this remote, the sequence to enter a setup code should be:
Press Setup until 2 blinks
Press the desired device button
Enter the setup code.

This order is different to most UEI remotes, but for any device besides TV, this seems to be necessary. BTW, I did check with my OARUSB04G, and it accepts TV 0812.

Does anybody know where I might find the settings for my particular TV?

It seems a bit dark these days.  I remember there was a published list of settings

that made the picture w-a-y better than the factory settings, but do not have the

link any longer.

I assume you got the OARUSB04G working?
