I would like to see a device like this that could control my ISY 994i, and all my Audio/video equipment via IP addresses with a user designed interface.

This, this, THIS. +1. Let's be real, we're lazy when we're watching the TV. We want to be able to surf without constantly looking at the remote. You cannot do this with a touchscreen alone, no matter how good it is.

That and we want a device that'll survive being dropped from the couch to the hardwood floor. Because we're being lazy, sitting under a blanket, blindly pressing buttons with commands being sent via RF. We fall asleep, roll over and the remote hits the floor.

Yeah, design language is wonderful and all that, but TV watching is totally about being lazy and devices that don't effectively accommodate that aren't going to cut it.

Neeo posted some new blog posts dated from Nov 29th. 3 different posts geared towards UI speed, infrared and a message from the engineering team. I haven't backed them personally and haven't preordered and will continue to wait. I wonder if there are a select few beta testers that received it even tho it hasn't shipped to the public. Any thoughts on all this and if this is just vaporware ?

I guess we'll find out soon enough. They should start shipping by the end of this year.

"Should start shipping" Ha! That's the biggest joke for what seems like MOST crowd-funding gizmos in the IoT/Home Automation segment. I wouldn't hold your breath.

NEEO update - for those interested in this remote, the latest blog update on their site is very positive and indicates it should be moving to production soon. I am interested and hope it is released/reviewed soon.

Not really. While they haven't been very good about posting frequent updates, when they have posted, they've never tried to sound like they're about to go to production. They've always been pretty open about what challenges they're facing and where they're at in the process. They've posted numerous issues that they've dealt with. This time around they basically posted results of the final pre-production checks.

Like I said, they could update more, but I don't feel like they've deliberately mislead anyone.

I was one of the first to back this thing. I ordered three remotes and "brains". I've now been waiting over two years for this vapor-tech to surface and I've had enough. Headed to Best Buy tomorrow for some Harmony Elite's for the $100 off trade-in of an old harmony (I've got scads of them).

They did post an update last week on Kickstarter that says they will post an update on a ship date in a few more months. You'll probably be able to buy one of these from Amazon before they ship to backers.

Interesting Kickstarter - NEEO

Yeah. I'm done. As the years have gone by, the remotes just kept stacking up to where you had to be me, or an MIT engineer to simply watch TV and no one else could run anything. Picked up the Harmony Elite and after years of disappointment from them and baskets full of failed attempts, they got this one right. It's amazing. Does exactly what I wanted in a simple form factor that anyone can use effectively. I'm officially done with NEEO. They had years worth if chances to make good on their promise to deliver and there really is no end in sight. Done with NEEO and totally on board with Harmony Elite. Buying two more.

I didn't back the Neeo and certainly understand feeling the frustration of waiting years for a product. Going by their latest blog entry it seems like it will actually start shipping Feb/March, so if it does I look forward to some reviews soon.

If you look at their previous blog entries then it is always about to ship soon.

Even if they meet their shipping date this time (unlikely, add another two months for problems with initial shipment quality ...) you still have to anticipate hardware and software bugs they cannot foresee. Huge companies have that issue, so expect it with a smaller company too.

So the team that took this long to finish the product will also have to be fixing code bugs after delivery.

I'm sure glad that the $240 I paid for this isn't the difference between putting food on the table or not. The way some people have reacted to their delays, it really kinda seems like there are people who shouldn't be investing in luxury kickstarter campaigns. Makes me chuckle, makes me sad, and irritates me all at the same time.

About 5 months ago, my ex-girlfriend bought a Harmony which I had to set up for her. It did nothing but reconfirm that the Harmony remotes are not for me. I hated that thing.

So, yeah, the delays have been a bummer, but I've confirmed through that time that there really wasn't a solution that I would've preferred, so I'm okay with waiting. I'll be excited when I get the shipping notice. Hopefully it's as cool as it has looked. At least I didn't go hungry waiting (my waistline can confirm).

I love my iPhone, but it will never replace my turntable.

You are assuming the Neeo programming will be an improvement over the Harmony.

I guess the next game well be waiting for patches to fix the software bugs.

I've played with one at CEDIA. It's much better than Harmony. That is not a concern.

While I loved the concept and the idea, I pulled my money out a while ago. I just got tired of waiting. I'll probably buy 2nd generation version after all of the issues and bugs have been fixed.

Any updates?

Will this control RF devices (Lutron dimmer)?

What about learning?

I've never had a remote that didn't need that for some functions that didn't work with the codes.

From their main kickstarter page:
Quote:
Technical Details

The NEEO brain has all the smarts to handle older TVs or DVD players to the latest lights, sensors and door locks. It is packed full of cutting edge features never before found in a home automation device including:

4 antennas for Bluetooth 4.0, Bluetooth BLE (low energy), Wi-Fi, 6LowPAN, ZigBee, Thread and Z-Wave protocols
360° infrared coverage
TV, Sonos®, Apple® TV, Roku®, and Philips® Hue support
Supports cable boxes - including Cablevision®, Verizon®, Time Warner®, and Comcast®
Supports satellite systems from Dish® and DirectTV®
Supports your own devices in Learning Mode (See FAQ)
(Lutron uses ZigBee)

But I guess you can say an imaginary product does anything you want.

JP1 remotes can send every possible command for every possible IR device without ever learning, even though they can learn. Just sayin'

No, they do not. Lutron uses their own RF protocol and it's not zigbee nor z-wave. Their bridges support IP network connections.

Good to know, thanks.

Can't say I get the warm fuzzies from their website just saying "Estimated shipping: soon", which you only see when you click on "pre-order"

Oh their communication hasn't been great. Still really isn't very good. But if you go to the blog on their website and look at the latest updates, and the updates on kickstarter, you can get a better idea of the status by piecing things together.

Nevo C3 and Xsight Touch. But they are just RF, no BT, IP, Zigbee, etc.

Harmony Elite is your best DIY option for all of that at the moment.

Thanks for the leads, both Nevo and Xsight get a high proportion of negative reviews.

I don't need BT (don't even know what it is), IP, or Zigbee, just looking for something to replace my URC MX-880, which I've never managed to fully program.

> Harmony Elite is your best DIY option for all of that at the moment.

Is that including the Neeo, or are you withholding judgement on that?
