Directv Remote and Denon Receiver

I have a rc65rx directv remote that I cannot program with my Denon AVR S500 BT.

I can get the Denon to turn off but it wont control the volume with the remote.

I called Directv, they ran me thru the process of pressing mute and select and then typing in like 8 different codes with no luck. They basically told me the Denon was not programmable with the Directv remote.

Is this likely correct?

The volume keys NEVER work initially with ANY audio code on a directv remote. Reason is the volume keys won't work at all without a tv code programmed to the tv device, once there's a tv code its volume is now in the way, but that can be remedied.

So with a tv code programmed in, your's or any just that there needs to be one. And partially working Denon code programmed to AV1 or AV2 device, to get the volume:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

Yes, I used 3 different Direct Tv remotes. Two of them operate the sound on a tv in a different room but after I did the steps you gave they still would not control the Denon receiver.

With a tv code in, 993 steps above still programmed in, now we try other Denon codes:

30004, 30160, 31360, and 31306.

After each try the volume keys.

I have the exact same issue with a Denon AVR S510 BT. I followed the steps above and the volume bar shows up on the TV screen as I expected. But it does not move up and down as you would expect. Any ideas?

Denon AVR S510BT

Bump, same issue as previous poster. Directv RC65 remote with code 31360 will pull up volume bar on Denon AVR s510bt, but volume won't go up or down continuously, got to keep hitting volume to get one vol increment at a time.

Like the receiver, but going to return it if there is no fix. Neither Denon or Directv view this as their problem.

Any help, thanks!

Try the following on the directv remote:

1. av1 or av2 whichever has the denon code
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 6 3
4. press CH Down

Now try the volume keys?

No Difference

I tried your recommendation but it continues to operate the same - you get the bar but it doesn't slide.

I think it would be wiser to simply get a different remote. That's like returning your new car because your favorite coffee cup won't fit in the cup holder. Get a different cup. The $15 OARUSB04G at Best Buy is an excellent option.

Why won't the UEI made universal have the same problem as UEI made oem remote?

I agree that seems logical. But I have the very same Denon and several UEI remotes, and all of them work fine. I don't know what's up with the DirecTV remotes and the repeats with this particular protocol. I've seen this reported elsewhere and no solution yet.

You can try code searching by volume, but holding button to see if it repeats:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 1, wait two blinks
4. enter 3
5. press and release VOL UP
6. point the remote at the stereo and keep pressing and holding CH up for a bit, if stereo doesn't respond release, repeat be pressing and holding and than releasing CH UP key until you find working code that repeats.
7. press select to lock in code

We know there are codes that work partially, but by pressing & holding each time you press the CH UP key, we are looking for codes that repeat.

I realize this thread is a bit old but I wanted to share my success with this sequence.

Following the 993 steps today worked for my 65R Directv remote and my Denon 2200w using remote code 31360.

Thanks Edmund!

Difficulties connecting DTV to Denon

I just received my new genie remote from DirectTV, and I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get it to connect to my Denon AVR 2308CI receiver! DirecTV told me its impossible, and I've tried every Denon code I can find on the internet to no avail. What really frustrates me is the previous genie remote was programed to this Denon and worked fine for two years up until last week when it just stopped working. Ive got the new remote programmed to TV, it operates the TV and the DirecTV just fine, any ideas for connecting to Denon?
I've tried all the codes suggested in this thread.......

31360 is the correct code for your Denon. Follow the On Screen instructions after pressing MENU -> Remote Control -> Program Audio Device.
