Do ATI and Nvidia Cards play nice together?

Sort of odd question. I've been told you can run video cards as physics cards to take some of the load off of another graphics card, and I believe this is different than SLI or Crossfire.

So the question.... Can you run one ATI card as your primary card to process the video, and a Nvidia card in another slot to process only the physics?

If no one knows the answer, maybe I can provide one in a week when I get my second card :P

Card 1 (Primary in PCIe x16 2.0 slot): ATI Radeon HD 5970
Card 2 (Secondary for Physics only, in PCIe x16 2.0 slot) EVGA GTX 460

EDIT** Board supports Crossfire 4xGPU but not SLI, not that it should matter

I believe there's an unofficial way to do it, google hybrid PhysX.
