Is Knights of the Old Republic going to be in 720p or 1080i? Are you guys looking forward to the release date on this game?

No, and yes. I'm too poor to buy it right now, but I hope blockbuster will get it on release day... though it probably won't.

The game's only 480p (I was also hoping for 720p or 1080i).

Someone on ************** posted that Circuit City will have a deal going next week (starting 7/20) for a free $10 gift card with purchase.

I think I can wait that long (maybe).

*sigh*.....I was so hoping this game would rank really low as I already own a ton of games I need to play and there are a ton of games I've been meaning to buy. Oh well, guess I'll add this one to the list ;)

Would you still reccommend it to someone who is neither an rpg fan or a star wars fan?

Reaper, considering that the game is an RPG game based in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn't recommend it to you if you don't like Star Wars nor RPG games.

I am definitely planning on picking it up, but that because I like RPGs and am a fan of Star Wars ;)

I like both too, so I'm having a very hard time resisting a purchase. I know if I wait a month they'll pop on on Half.com for ~$35.

This is what Star Wars games have been missing. Why they waited so long to get a title like this out is beyond me.

What makes it even better is the fact they finally, FINALLY got out of the current timeline and explored the other areas in the mythos.

Now, if they'd do a similar game on the New Jedi Order series, I'd really be happy. :)

The game has a hard enough time getting by in 480p, I can't imagine how slow it would be in a higher resolution. It's not horrible, but it does stutter at some points.

They said the 16:9 was left out because they couldn't tell a difference between their 16:9 mode and stretch on whatever tv they used to test it.

Where'd you read that? Sounds like a lame excuse to me.

I'm really tired of MS not having any HD standard at all. The least they could do is label the XBox games as widescreen or not. Something like the little logo on DVD boxes.

On top of that, I really wish that IGN would indicate this information in their reviews (HD? 16:9? 5.1?), but they never do. I guess their reviewers are playing these games on their old 19" mono televisions.

On the back of all new XBOX games there's a grid where you can tell you what's "in" the game (this started when Live was launched).

FYI, KotOR is tagged on the back w/

480p
Ingame Dolby Digital
XBox Live Content Download

This is a change from even a few months ago when Shenmue II was tagged as HDTV when it wasn't.

Well, that's half the battle. Before MS considered anything progressive as "HDTV". Answers nothing about the widescreen question.

Games that support widescreen modes say so on the box. Check out Midnight Club II for example, it lists:

HDTV 480P
HDTV 16x9

Which means it does an anamorphic 16x9 widescreen mode at 480p.

I would recommend this game, even if you do not like RPGs. I am not a fan of traditional RPGs but I do enjoy this game! BTW, this is my first post here at AVS, and I am happy to join the forum. I have been hanging out at gamefaqs, but I find the average users to be, at best, immature kids. I am glad to find a community that loves video games AND technology as much as I do!!

So is it the developers putting the info on the box or MS?

"HDTV 480P" sounds like something MS would put on the box. Of course we know it's not, even though they'ld like us to think so.

Some games are so good that I enjoy them despite the fact that I typically wouldn't enjoy that kind of game or world (Star Wars). It's not the I dislike Star Wars, but I am not a fan... Lord of the Rings is more my taste. Just wondering if it was such a great game that it would be an exception...

Reaper,
It all depends on what kinds of games you like. While this RPG is different than the typical console RPG, it's still an RPG game. It still has a battle system. So, while the fight scenes look cool during the game, you're pretty much telling the characters what actions they should take and not actually controlling the actions per se as you would in an action based game as in Lord of the Rings. Also, the game is very story driven. There is lots of dialouge in it and you basically have to make choices in the game that will affect how your character turns out. If those are things you're not really into, then I wouldn't recommend it.

However, as I said before, this game is a different kind of RPG than the typical console RPG, so I would definitely maybe check it out by renting it. As far as the game being based in the Star Wars universe goes, while I am a bigger fan of Lord of the Rings myself than Star Wars, this game might actually make you more of a Star Wars fan than you were as it is well written and a good story(which is more than I can say for episode 1 or 2). I hope George Lucas is taking notes.

Anyway, good luck! It's hard to decide what to get now that you have access to every game on every console, eh? ;)

Have you played any of the Bioware games Reaper? Its fairly standard fare for them as the gameplay goes. Graphics are totally different but the storytelling and flow are dead on for Bioware. (Baulder's Gate, Neverwinter Nights).

I started Baldur's Gate on the PC but didn't get very far. I do have a free rental coupon to BlockBuster. Maybe I'll have to take dschroll's advice and rent it first. I got plenty to keep me busy for a while anyway.

I thought it was funny what the IGN guy said in his video review I watched last night. He said something like you will enjoy this game even if you don't typically play RPGs and aren't a Star Wars fan. But an RPG/Star Wars fan will be in heaven.
