Barring any big spoilers, I wanted to make a thread to share the "holy crap" moments from Halo. Last night I was driving a warthog with a passenger and gunner and I saw a ghost, so I got out of the warthog and jumped in the ghost, and the passenger of the warthog jumped out and got in the driver seat and followed me with the gunner giving me backup!!! I thought that was the coolest thing. Everyone else share (but no spoilers!!!)

This is simple, but it's the first time I've seen an enemy who was hiding behind a crate. jump up on said crate and start shooting at me. I've just been programmed to expect one of 2 possibilities. he comes out by the left side of the crate and shoots at me or he comes out by the right side of the crate and shoots at me. Seeing a guy jump up on top and attack was a nice little touch that took me by surprise the 1st time.

Have you seen the guys actually throw the crates around yet after hiding behind it? That freaked me out the first time I saw it.

It was a bug but I found it pretty amusing... Somehow one of the marines on the second or third level (city fighting) managed to get stuck in a concrete pillar. All I could see was his helmet and gun sticking out. Pretty lousy hiding place if you ask me. ;)

I did think it was cool that you could move things around and found myself doing it just becasue I could.

I also like the celebrity voices like David Cross and Laura Prepon. I had heard she was a Halo freak and had done some voices but did not know about Cross until I heard the Marine talk and was like WTF, I know that guy's voice. I bet he would be hilarius to play with on Live.

XBOX Live: SheriffTruman

You mean in the one-player don't have any, however in the multi-player:

1) There was killerpoptart knocking me off
2) there was SheriffTruman knocking me off
3) there was Killer Taco knocking me off
4) there was King747224 knocking me off
5) there was seasickdwarf knocking me off (which is just plain cruel as we are both mods of forums on this website)
6) there was bajtrax knocking me off
7) there was one player with the "flaming sword of death" that knocked me off about 7 times.

Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone. :)

Those are my highlights since owning Halo2.

SPOILERS!! Don't read if you haven't finished campaign!!

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I couldn't stand inclusion of Cross and Prepon. I immediately recognized their voices, and it detracted from the immersion.

Prepon was also part of a larger issue of trying to make the game too politically correct (female ground-troops, Keyes' daughter, playing as Covenant so as to "understand our enemies"). It all felt forced.

Texture pop-in didn't bug me, but cut-scenes were amazingly rough around the edges. Sound was good, but gunfire sounded tinny. Keith David was awesome. The guy did the best voice work I've ever heard in HBO's Spawn series, and he's still great!!

People have mentioned the weapons, and I agree they're unbalanced. Everything is too weak except Sword, which is over-dominating. Although I loved dual wielding plasma rifles, and actually found the needler to be useful and non-shielded enemies.

What I always have loved about Halo is vehicles because of the great controls, and was pissed I couldn't drive the Scarab. Overall, my favorite levels involved the vehicle-heavy ones.

Which leads me to my biggest gripe. Still too much repetition. Backtracking through an earlier level, only now with fog and no light, does not a new level make. And I got enough of the Flood the first time, I didn't need half the second half of the game to be killing flood. Toward the end, I just stopped fighting and ran past them, because they don't follow.

Obviously, it's still a great game, but more like the 9.4 Gamespot gave it than the 9.8 OXM gave it (btw, they never mentioned texture problems, which makes me question their credibility some). I actually liked the story, but the cliffhanger bugs me b/c we won't see Halo 3 for 4 years. Gravemind is a great character, and that scene after the credits was the only part of the story that gave me a chill.

I pretty much feel like I did at the end of see Phantom Menace. Somewhat letdown, but still satisfied.

Coolest thing I saw: a regular marine with a rocket launcher shooting everything out of the sky with no misses.

One of the 'oh crud' responses: first time I used the energy sword, my follow through took me right off a bridge, weeeeeeeeeeee.

So far favorite momments (there are SO many!!)

Was attacked by an elite. I also had a sword. But not paying attention - I took one swipe and that was the last of my sword (energy ran out and disappeared)

I had the elite against the wall though and continued to melee attack him with just the sword handle. It seemed to take forever. He got a few shots on me and he finally went down when my shield was flashing red.

I had to take a breather after that one.

Another:

Manning the turret of a warthog while being chauffered by another AI driver - got to cruise around and dish out a lot of bruising!!

Knock a Covenant energy shield out with a tank, then park on top of it and wait for the sheild to regenerate. You will get quite a surprise.

Another oh crud moment: The bigger flying mechanical monstrocity of doom (the one with 2 forward shields)... I was in a Wraith tank and it picked the thing up and started crushing the turret. By the time I bailed, it pulverized the tank.

When driving the Warthog through the tunnel early on in the game, I stepped out to snipe some Elites and my buddies got wasted and then an Elite runs up from behind and jumps on the Warthog's main gun and starts blasting for me. (maybe a "yeah, they do that in H2" thing for others, but it was an unexpected tactic to me).

Other end of the spectrum. I walk around a corner and there's an Elite and he just stands there waving his hand. So I just sit there and lay into him with the battlefield rifle. Never took a shot at me or moved.

This isn't a single player moment but it was pretty funny. I was driving the warthog in a CTF match and one member of my team went and captured the flag. When I went to pick him up, a member from the other team jumped in the vehicle in the passenger side. What could I do besides tell him to "GET OUT!". lol. By the time I got out of the vehicle and killed him, someone blew up the warthog. It was a pretty good strategy, and I had to laugh.

SMAC,

Similar thing happened to a friend and me. We were playing co-op and in one level 3 elites took over a warthog. When we realized what had happened it was to late. We thought it was our AI marines who were driving it.

Mine was when manning a stationary 50caliber machine gun and wishing the concrete walls weren't in my way and blasted them and they crumbled out of my way. Wow I improved my killing zone by 30%. :D

I had to revive this thread to share this online multiplayer momment:

With a buddy of mine online, we played a slayer match on the level (forget name) where you are in a factory of sorts with boxes running along conveyors at the bottom floor. At one end there is a "lift" thing that if you walk into it, it will send you flying into the air (cool actually)

My buddy was having a fun 'ol time bouncing up and down this lift while I walked up to the base and watched a few times. He did not know I was there (I think)

On one of his trips down I casually tossed a plasma grenade on him - he flew up into the air and blew up - funny thing was the body came down and then flew up again - landed on the conveyor - and then was pulled into the lift and flew up again before disappearing onto an upper floor. We were laughing our arses off!

Another multiplayer moment:

Last night Poptart, Odin and Rawley were playing in Zanzibar defending the flag. I was running down the hallway upstairs and jumped (at random). I HIT MY HEAD ON ONE OF THE HANGING LIGHTS! It started swaying... might not sound like much but it surprised the heck out of me. Very strange detail to put into the game if you ask me.

I have a moment everyday when I take out a warthog full off enemies with one rocket. Boom, I just love seeing the warthog blow up with bodies and weapons going everywhere. I never get tired of that.

In a Live Rumble Pit Slayer match on that board with the ice and the green tunnel that leads to a platform with one of those things that will shoot you back to the surface (you know the one. right? lol.) Anyway, I was on a frigging rampage I just killed 3 guys on my way into into that room with the platform thing that shoots you up by way of the ramp that runs on top of the green tunnel. You are probably lost, becuz I am describing this like crap, but anyway ... I see a red dot on my radar, I know the guy is either above me or below me. I take a guess he is in the green tunnel on his way to the platform I drop down in front of the tunnel facing him, we exchange SMG fire, and I whip a few grenades in, one goes right past him, the second I one hoped and it blew up next to his head. To me, the way I wa able to one hop it (on purpose of course ;) ) and hit him right next to his head was amazing. This probably brought joy to no one but me, but at least I re-lived it one more time.
