Hello Fellow Gamers & HT Enthusiasts,

I am pretty frustrated with getting schooled on Xbox Live with Halo 2.

So I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your Halo 2 fighting strategies and tips.

What works for you?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sincerely, BK

1. Dual wield an energy weapon and a bullet firing weapon for close encounters. The energy weapon will take down shields while the other one will take out their armor.

2. Find the plasma sword. One hit and they are dead.

3. The rocket launcher is good for vehicles and turrents. You can also take out 2 or 3 of the enemy at once.

4. Remember practice makes perfect. Almost everyone will do badly at first but keep trying. Learn the maps and weapon locations.

Thanks Livecrazy Joe,

I have been practicing, with my head shots. And they have proved to be improving my game.

But it's hard for me to get used to the 6min time limit on the ranked games. The pace is faster and the fighting more fierce.

My movements have been slow, and my dodging not so good.

So any other advice would be appreciated.

Sincerely, BK

1. If you can maintain accuracy, it's always good to increase controller sensitivity. It'll help you turn faster.

2. ALWAYS use the buddy system. People who are alone (unless you're sniping) in any game type usually die quickly.

3. Communicate with teammates. "Where's the flag/bomb?" "Where are you guys?"

I'm not very good, but these things do help. Also, being good at Slayer and being good at objective-based game types can two entirely different things. Obviously, it's good if you can kill other people with precision. But team coorination can overcome a team full of one-on-one shootout specialists. If you aren't so good at Slayer, then maybe you're better playing the team based games.

If you have dual SMGs aim at there waste. Hold the triggers and let the guns carry there way up. By the time they reach the head, the shields will be depleted and it's a quick kill.

The biggest thing that i have found in this game that will make you better is your aim. Squicken says turn up the sensitivity but I disagree because usually if someone is firing from behind you are going to be dead anyway.
Use your radar so you can tell someone is coming from behind.
I recommend actually reducing your sensitivity to one which will really smooth out your aim.
The second thing, like any game, is knowing your maps. Where certain weapons are, holes in the floor, etc. will help a lot.
The last thing is Halo 2 is all about kill stealing and grenades can help a lot in this area. Many a game have been won using a well placed grenade.

Of course these tips are all for death match style games and general eliminating of your opponent. other games require different strategies like Oddball, capture the flag, and so forth.

Hi Dean et all,

Thanks for all your tips.

I am trying to get my handle on slayer.

But the one game I don't get is oddball.

What strategies do you have for that game?

Thanks, BK

Weapon wise:

1) If your going after one guy a good dual combo is the plasma gun you can build up and a SMG. Fire the plasma then take em out with the SMG. (this has been mentioned in another thread, but still a good strategy). If there are multiple enemies forget this weapon combo, it takes to long for your plasma to charge up.

2) Pistol and SMG is wicked for head shots and you can normally take out 2 guys with this combo, but 3 guys can be a problem due to the ammo of the pistol and needing to reload.

3) With the shotgun and sword be alot more sneaky, if you see someone coming on your radar hide or begin to move slowly so you can fall off their radar. Once they're close enough then you can attack with these weapons. If your too far away, your screwed.

4) Personally I never use the needler, even two of them take to long to kill one guy (I find anyways).

Strategies:

1) If you see a ghost or banshee etc. firing at your team, don't warn the enemy your coming by firing at him too, sneak up on him (because he is probably not checking his radar) and steal his ride.

2) Sticking together is always a good strategy like a few people have already mentioned.

3) When you have the flag or skull and your being fired @ with no help around, don't just keep running... fight back. (both are very powerful melee weapons).

4) When in games like CTF and Assault, if the original plan goes wrong, regroup and try again. Going in individually (regardless of the time remaining or how good you are) never works.

5) My post is too long sorry ;)

Does anyone think the Battle Rifle or the Carbine are useful in multiplayer? I find that whenever I pick one of these up my life expectancy goes way down.

Unfortunately this is too true. Takes much of the finesse out of the game. But, I love it everytime it works for me;)

Don't worry about running out of grenades either, there are usually tonnes of them lying about.

Odball strategies are these;
know thy map. Press X to actually pick up the ball (a lot of people don't know this to my surprise).
use grenades for crowd dispersal.
use springboards or ledges to jump from to hang onto the ball long enough.

Head-to-Head games may not be as fun, but it's a good way to refine your shooting techniques - without the variables that exist with a bunch of enemies around.

If you keep getting killed with the same armaments as your opponent, you know you got work to do.

One tip that nobody has mentioned yet is playing through the campaign mode. If Normal is a breeze, try Heroic. This will definitely hone your skills and help you learn what weapons and combinations work best, etc.

Hmmm the link there seems to support my 3 favorite dual wield combos:

2 needlers - maybe this is slower but if both guns are pumping and your enemy has nowhere to duck it is deadly and fun to watch as well.

1 needler and a magnum or SMG - fun like the 2 needlers but sounds cool. Aim for the body and pull - let the SMG pull up to the head.

2 magnums - with both fully loaded and good head aim this combo rules. You are smoked if you are in a reload situation though...which is why

You then switch to the secondary weapon:

Sword - enough said.

or Brute Shot - I don't know why I like this one it is just fun to fire that sucker!

If it looks like I am toast my last stand before I die is to (hopefully) stick em with a plasma grenade before I go.....

Of corse all this is worthless against a sniper you don't see until its too late.

I will have to try adjusting sensitivity... I think I have it in the middle - I will try out both ways..... faster and slower.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the strategies.

The one thing that I just tried tonite was the plama pistol and SMG. So a charged up shot to remove the opponents shield and then finish them off with SMG or Magnum.

It worked great, and much quicker kill. And I thought that the Plama pistol was useless. What a great combo.

And now to try out some of your other suggestions.

Thanks and keep the tips coming, BK

Oddball is a hard game to really have an effective strategy. But in the map collosus me, rev, odin and a few others have come up with one that that works pretty well. As soon as someone getsa the ball head over to either sides base. Stay in the back as the remaining people defend against the other team. Be warned tho, if they kill you they will do the same. Believe me, Ive heard several teams say right after we died, "Lets do what they were doing".

That's a great chart but of course it does not take distances into consideration such as with the shotgun which requires being pretty close to get that one shot kill.
