I wonder if there is any advantage to waiting for the XBox version. How do the previous GTA titles compare between Xbox and PS2?

Martin.

I haven't actually played any of the Xbox versions, but they typically look a little prettier.

The major difference would be graphics. The last port featured 480p and some graphical upgrades.

The XBox version is ported from the PC (which I guess is why they are developing/releasing them at the same time this round). The graphics are definitely improved. As much as I'd like to get it for the PC, this is such a solid "lay back on the couch and lose an hour game" that I'll likely get it for Xbox despite any graphical advantage the PC might provide. I had GTAIII for the PC and found the gamepad to be a bit more fun.

Xbox offers custom soundtracks, I believe. Given the quality in terms of DJs (lazlo is dang funny) and songs, this isn't as useful as it was for GTA3.

I will pick it up for the PS2 only b/c I have the Gameshark and Codebreaker which I can use to get the codes for everything. GS and Codebreaker make life a bit easier when playing these games, especially when you work 10 to 12 hour days and you don't have much time to play these games.

If it's as big a difference between GTA III and Vice City on PS2 vs Xbox it will totally be worth it;

Last year my buddy picked up the XBOX version long after I had completed the PS2 version. He's not hardcore, and was 'done' with it after a few weeks. He brought it over and I played it a little, but it was nothing new to me, so I decided that the next time I would wait for the xbox version.

OTher than Katmari Damacy, I haven't bought a new game for my ps2 all year.

It's great being able to have your own soundtrack on the xbox. After countless hours of playing, you get kind of sick of hearing the same radio station.

Are there any real gameplay changes to San Andreas, or is it the same game in a different city?

Well, cities is more like it. Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, plus two rural/desert areas. It's HUGE. Plus, the main character has statistics that give it a quasi-RPG feel (Muscle, Fat, Stamina, shooting skills, weapons skills, etc), you can swim, more flying options (including parachuting!)... and more that I'm probably forgetting.

It's a much more serious game than VC was, imho, and the language is light-years more rough (not just curse words, but racial as well).

sweet, i can't wait. i knew it would be at least 6 months after the PS2 release, but it's great to get an exact date. i beat VC on both a PS2 and an Xbox, PS2 during the very start of the war in iraq when i had nothing better to do in saudi, and then when i got home and bought an xbox. the xbox version looks a lot better. gameplay is similar. only thing different i can think of is it's hard to do a stoppie on any bike but the faggio on xbox.

I prefer the xbox box versions ove rthe ps2 versions. I had both then sold my ps2 version of vice city when the xbox version came. It looked much better...alot less pop up issues, less slowdown, and they added some sweet lighting effects.

BUT there were glitches I absolutely hated, like in vice city on xbox...the pedestrians just stopped talking after a while. Made the citys seems dead. Had to turn off and turn back on the xbox to get them talking again.

The add your own soundtrack rocked though so I forgave the glitch. Most of the time I just put that game in and turn on one of my custom soundtracks and drove around doing drive bys and zone out.

If they dont make any huge glitches porting it over this time around ...I'll buy the xbox version for sure.

Wait let me get this straight, you mean the son of the wicked witch of the west can actually get wet, and swim!

It only took Rockstar until the third version to get this feature.

Seriously though, it sounds awesome. I'm marking my calendar.

Wouldn't it be great if the xbox version had multiple custome soundtracks so you can switch back and fourth?

The Xbox versions definatelly looked better with slightly more detail, and more importantly, I believe a longer viewing distance. There were several PS2 annoying limitations though that never got fixed in Vice city such as cars dissapearing when you turn around and then back. I can't count the number of times I was running from the cops, spotted a good get away car, looked back to see if the cop was far enough away for me to get into the car withough getting busted, then looking back at the car and seeing it had dissapeared.
