Pros Cons
  • Internal Pandora, Airplay, Netradio. Party mode!
  • Could have omitted the wireless external access point

It has replaced my bullet-proof Denon 3805.

I plugged it in, connected the speaker cables (with banana plugs), re-arranged my HDMI cables (the Denon did not have HDMI switching), connected my network cable to the back and instantly had access to Net radio features.
I downloaded the Sony AV app and put the local ip address (discovered in DHCP and I switched to static using same numbers) and the android app worked! Same with my wife's I phone app! I plugged in the local IP on my computer and BAM! Control of myt RX-773 is there! Zone 1, Zone 2 each with their own independent input settings and controls. Everything worked! I wasn't ready for that.

So, I spent the evening tweaking and setting it up. I was upset that there weren't more network apps like Pandora. That meant I had to keep my Bluetooth receiver to receive Pandora from my android phone, iPhone, iPad etc...

The next day, I noticed a message stating that if I could wait 20 minutes, there was a firmware update available. I clicked OK and 20 minutes later I HAD PANDORA RADIO and SIRIUS ONLINE apps! REALLY? Pandora works like a charm and after hitting OK on a warning that I didn't bother reading, SIRIUS radio online was up and working too.

Yamaha can keep their external wireless access point. Most audiophiles have multiple, hardwired network access to their equipment anyway. Plus, who wants the extra box with more wires to manage? If your going to offer wireless, build it into the unit.

Great unit. Party mode is fantastic! When listening to Direct TV music channels or the game, it allows us to hear on zone 2. Most units including the RX-663 won't broadcast external digital inputs through zone 2. This is important to me because zone 2 is piped to a 6 zone home sound system.

Superbowl is starting and now I must go and pretend to be impressed with my neighbors system.

I was using the Logitech bluetooth interface but determined that the internal Pandora radio was more convenient. The bluetooth went away shortly after embracing the on-board apps.
