Blu Ray is FAR more enjoyable with this unit than with the Sony BDPS-350 it replaced. Discs on this machine load FAST!!!! My main complaint is about the software. Before complaining, however...
Fast loading... lightning fast compared to Sony, solid networking capabilities, great picture and sound quality
Software is somewhat clunkily designed, can't adjust some system options easliy without ejecting the disc.
Blu Ray is FAR more enjoyable with this unit than with the Sony BDPS-350 it replaced. Discs on this machine load FAST!!!! My main complaint is about the software. Before complaining, however Panasonic has been pretty consistent about releasing new firmware to address issues along the way and the firmware update is relatively painless when the player is networked.
The menu layout leaves something to be desired. For some reason, some of the system settings seem to only be easily accessible when a disc is not present. There is sometimes a pop up menu that appears that SEEMS like it should be navigated by the touch pad but doesn't respond at all to any commands... The manual is a bit obtuse with regard to this pop up menu so I still haven't figured out how to get it off the screen when it occasionally appears... removing the disc and reinserting it usually clears the issue (but still...)
FYI, so far there has been only ONE occasion where this player would not play a disc when another would... the opposite has happened more frequently.
The track pad on the remote is kind of a joke and pretty useless... I set my player up to respond to a Logitech universal remote anyway, which actually controls the unit a bit better.
Netflix playback apparently was an issue in the past with this player but firmware seems to have ironed out the kinks with that... I really DO appreciate how often Panasonic releases new firmware and the player itself lets you know fairly unobtrusively when firmware is available.
Hooking up an external USB drive is pretty simple and plays back quite a range of formats... which is a really nice bonus. (though I have run into the inability to access subtitles issue that others have spoken of as well on USB. I consider the fact I can play ANYTHING other than Blu Ray kind of a bonus so I don't knock the player much for that particular hiccup... I use an Apple TV with Beamer software to do this most of the time anyway mainly because the software is easier to navigate.
I don't use the 3D function so I can't speak of that feature.
Overall, this is the best player I've owned so far and is priced REALLY reasonably for all the features and the quality... (now if only they could bribe Apple to design their menu...)
