7.1 analog audio, decent streaming abilities, good picture quality
a lot of edge sharpening, remote difficult to use in the dark, no 5.1 Dolby Digital for Netflix, "loses its place"
This is a decent player, but not the best I've seen by a long shot. It boots up quickly and loads medium-fast. The audio is decent either by HDMI or by 7.1 analog connection. The video has a lot of edge sharpening that's especially noticeable on upsampled DVDs. The remote is hard to use in the dark, and it's nearly identical to the remote for my Samsung TV--can't tell them apart by feel. When you fast-forward, the time scale goes away onscreen and you don't know where you are without looking at the LED display on the player. Most annoyingly, when you stop a DVD and turn off the player, it almost never remembers where you are, so you have to go through reloading and fast-forwarding to get to where you left off.
As far as streaming capacities, it will play FLAC, WAV, MP3 files from my computer using Windows Media Player. Samsung has its own streaming software, but I've never loaded it. It has a limited selection of streaming services via apps (Netlfix, Vudu, Hulu, Youtube, etc.). However, Vudu doesn't play at its highest-quality bitrate, and Netflix will do 1080p but not Dolby Digital 5.1. The user interface for entering passwords etc. is primitive and annoying!
