. If you are in the US, go to crutchfield for the little amp you mention.. $109 there. You could use the pioneer cd input and set the volume controls at some setting you feel you can remember easily and let them alone unless it has an internal reset to some specific level you may or may not have control on. If it does have a startup volume you can set, set it for half way or higher and then accept what the denon does in its setup of speakers
Going with the little amp later is an ok option but you will have to rerun the Denon setup program when you do. No big deal but easier all the way around to just spend the $100 and have room for it and set up once. If you do not have speakers yet maybe consider some rear self powered ones instead?
