From this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1067485&page=2
And I'm wondering if someone, somehow, can verify TECSONIC BHD8866's decoding capabilities?
I need internally decoding of HD-audio for my Yamaha Rx-v2600.
Edit: Update ... found a User manual online: http://www.netlogic.se/bhd8866.asp
It stated:
3.1 AUDIO OUTPUT CAPABILITIES
Each of the digital audio outputs are capable of different levels of functionality, as described in the table below. Actual output will depend on setup menu settings, what types of audio tracks are encoded on the disk, and, for HDMI, TV capabilities.
1) Core portion of this track will be passed to the audio receiver if the receiver has the capability to decode this format
2) Raw digital track will be passed through to the audio receiver if the receiver has the capability to decode this format, OR the track can be mixed with other disk audio (for example, director's commentary or special effects from button pushes) and then re-encoded to multichannel DTS or stereo PCM.
3) Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD tracks can be decoded and re-encoded to multichannel DTS and stereo PCM
4) Decoded, mixed with effects and secondary channel, and converted to Analog
Me being Norwegian and somewhat slow would appreciate a translation
Does it do the same as the PS3? Regarding number 3) I'm just a little confused by the re-coding to Multichannel DTS ? If it said MPCM i would be satisfied, but this I don't understand.. A Dolby True HD signal converted/re-coded into DTS or stereo? I don't want that..

The manual claims the player can decode all and transcode to 1.5Mbps DTS. This is not a bad option for those who want lossless quality but only have a legacy decoder in the receiver. At least with 1.5Mbps DTS, the transcode will get you mostly there in terms of hearing lossless!

FWIW, that is a requirement of the BD system. That is hardly a feature.

I was reading in another forum and came across the statement that the Denon 3800 is the only Blu-Ray player that will internally decode and output DTS-MA as 7.1 LPCM. Same statement said that all other players that internally decode DTS-MA only output the format as 5.1 LPCM.
Is this correct?

The BD35 does 7.1 also over HDMI.

Yeah but it doesn't decode. We are strictly talking about lossless decoding players.

Sure it does. The BD35 doesn't have 7.1 analog out - that's what the BD55 is for - but it will decode DTS-HD MA and output it as LPCM over HDMI.

So I added the latest chart and added what I had noted. I'm sure I'm missing some things. If I'm missing anything or you notice anything incorrect in the chart, let me know and I'll add it.

I see from this website that they've lumped the 35 and 55 together in describing MA decoding ability:

If this is true, then the BD35 mimics the PS3 in its ability to decode all over HDMI. What's the pricing on the BD35? I must have confused this player with the Sony S350, which does not decode MA internally.

Not bad at all considering what the 30 and 50 are still selling for.

MA decoding for $299 is incredible if it pans out!
