I have just under 2 weeks to make a decision on this:
I would like to spend ~2k or under total on this television, including tax/shipping etc. - (if there's some epic television that is slightly abouve this price, eg; 2300 and is 60"+ local dimming.. maybe i'll be able to swing more)
The minimum size is 55" - It should be a local dimming LED set at this size
UNLESS it is 60"+ set in which case non LED backlit is okay, please suggest if it is a good set
SO FAR: I am leaning towards the 55LH90
Also considering: LC-60E77UN and LC-C6077UN - however I can't find much information review-wise on these sets or see them in person
So... get the 55LH90? Some other 55" LED set? Those 60" CFL LCD's compare in PQ to the 55 LED? Any super set i've overlooked around my price range?
If you have a light-controlled room, I'd have a look at the toshiba 670u... if not, the lh90 is a good choice, and the LG 55LHX is even a possibility if you don't mind a display unit. Aside from those, I'd probably be looking at last year's sammy or panny plasmas.
I was originally considering the 55SV670U as it was available for considerably cheaper than than 55LH90 - however I can now get both sets for essentially the same price (The 55LH90 is ~+$60 more) - and the 55LH90 seems to have generally positive reviews across the board - ranking abouve both the 55LH90 and the VF551XVT.
My room does have natural lighting, however I do have the ability to install curtains / blinds to make this a non-issue.
How would one go about acquiring a display unit? I'm assuming 'in-store bartering'? Would the price really drop that much considering that tax / environmental fees would have to be paid for an in-store purchase?
Sadly the UN55B8500 hasn't experienced nearly enough of a price drop to put it within my budget

After an early firmware update, from what I can tell, the 670u has as good or slightly better owner satisfaction than the LH90, so it really comes down to aesthetics and bright vs light-controlled room. As far as the 55LHX, there are only a few left around as they've been discontinued for some time... and yes, at Magnolia/BB, the price has come down to your range (I got one a few days ago at Mag/BB for less than they were selling the LH90 (which was also discounted). The asking price on the LHX was the same as the LH90 and I talked them down a few hundred from there. unless the tag says 'open box' on it, ask for at least 10% off the tag price. I paid 9.25% in CA sales tax and still was more than a hundred under your limit.
How many times and how many threads does it take for you to make a decision? It's just a TV for Christ's sake! No matter how many times you bump your multiple threads, you obviously aren't going to get everyone to agree on what kind of TV YOU should buy for YOURSELF. Perhaps it's time to grow up, step up to the plate, keep the Vizio, or buy something YOU want. No matter what, I predict you will never be satisfied.
For what it's worth, Sam's Club had the LH90 at an amazingly low price a few days ago.
Sorry for 'cluttering things up' - but this second thread has a different 'requirement' from the previous one - and the 2010 models are hitting the market now so there are more choices available!
Yes it's just a TV - but it's a very expensive television - the newest television in my home is nearly a decade old CRT set, i'd like to find the best possible set for the money!
Thanks for the advice :] I've already found the best price (for me) @ LH90 (I would have to pay tax / CA environmental fees at Sams Club)
As of now still leaning towards the LH90 - dougri you say that 670U has better owner satisfaction after that early firmware update - can you point me to some of the places you've seen this? - I was browsing the 670U thread and was kind of confused as to what exactly was accomplished with that firmware update
OH NOES! That LCD looks EXTREMELY interesting and is in my price range.. I can get it for a good price right now too.. but the vendor has flat rape shipping this weekend only! THE DECISIONS!
Anyone have any more information on this TV? Can't seem to find much information on it..
do you live close to a frys? they do commission and can bargain with them a little bit that goes with any place that does commission. i have not seen the 88un in the store but have seen the 77un (last years) at sams club and besides it not being as aesthetically pleasing the pq looked good. i have seen the sony 60ex500 and liked it alot. but its a little bit out of your price range. my eyes are not that picky and i would and will almost always suggest if you can afford a bigger screen go for it but then again dont know how good pq you want. the lg from what ive heard is very very good blacks and colors.
