I grew up with Speed Racer and I was VERY skeptical of the movie but I thought it was great visually and very good content. Very true to the original IMO.
Not "eye candy" but off the top of my head, no order. I enjoy watching what I consider films on the projector at 120". I find most "eye candy" equatable to viewing paint drying.
1) "Casablanca"
2) "The African Queen"
3) "Sunrise"
4) "The Third Man"
5) "M"
6) "Paths of Glory"
7) "Seven Samurai"
8) "Yojimbo"
9) "The Searchers"
10) "The Godfather"
Goddard, Fellini, Bertoluccci, Resnais and a few others have some releases on BD.

As I stated, I had rather watch paint dry, than almost any of those. Only marginally would I view "Shawshank" or "Sin City", or "There Will Be Blood". I have seen all three but do not put them anywhere near the films I noted, even merely considering BD releases. cf. below for an explanation as to my meaning. (Although I hear "Planet Earth" was a good documentary- I neglected documentaries on my list intentionally.)
I neither missed the point nor did I name films that do not follow the entirety of the OPs written thoughts, to wit: "recommend top 10 movies to watch with projector" and "just wondering what would be your opinions for first movies to watch". Although I did name only films released on BD, as is likely he meant "eye candy" in the accepted sense.
I gave him my opinion as to some excellent titles that I would and do watch on my projector. Personally I would rather watch a DVD version of "Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler " or "Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse", among many others, than the 'movies' you named. But I am a Fritz Lang fan. . . His query was about opinion and I gave mine, even if it does not follow δόξα.
In keeping with spirit of others' posts I did mention only BDs! (And again, I grant, in all likelihood the unstated premise of the OPs thread.) My list is of what I consider great films on BD. And a part of my consideration is always the beauty of the film qua crafted story and acting. I think that the projector enjoyment for me is seeing a huge representation of a nice picture of a wonderful film.
So, I enjoy what I consider films on my projector, BDs or not and the huge image and decent to great picture clarity (a nebulous term, I guess) are what makes a PJ worth having for me. These are my opinions but I hope the OP gives them a look.
If not he got an honest opinion that was worth what it cost.
I very well understand what others see as nice to just look at but for me 'eye candy' is seeing Ingrid Bergman say to Dooley Wilson "play, 'As Time Goes By'", in 1080p.
Here are my picks for ten "movies" that are made big so improve greatly from small screen to large, are ones that many did not get to see in theaters, and are just so cool that I think you would want to see them again on your new projector.
Don't forget the latest "Star Trek" on Blu ray. The visuals in this movie are spectacular.
If you want to find out how good your projector is with motion and dark scene shadow detail not just black levels..."Ninja Assassin" will show you the warts.
Either you'll see what's happening in the warehouse fight scenes or you won't. lol..though some projectors claim better blacks, they crush the detail. If you can't easily see the Ninja's as they move around the rooms and fight..your blacks are being crushed.
For colors..check out the movie "UP".The bird's feathers in the movie should shimmer and change color depending on how the sunlight hits her.
As mentioned "Band of Brothers" is an awesome mini-series that gives you a lot to look at.
He/she is asking for opinions. There is no right or wrong answer. Some opinions might match yours and others not.
Since the ops asks for "first" films, I'm going to go eye candy.
1. Avatar - excellent eye candy, good sound, so so story.
2. 5th Element - Good eye candy, good story, good sound.
3. Transformers - The first one still holds up. The 2nd's one doesn't.
4. Planet Earth - Excellent Visuals.
I know the op says top 10, but if I'm showing off the home theater, those are what I'd choose. With my friends and family though, Beer Fest (Uncensored) is a winner everytime.
Better late than never.. maybe someone will read this:
Best movies on a new projecter... I am contemplating this as we speak.
Epson Pro Cinema 800 was delivered to my house today (got it for $549 direct from EPson, with warranty.. will post some pics once all is setup), going to set it up tonight, and am pondering my options for first movie to watch... Out of my 500 DVDS I've narrowed it down to, in no particular order:
- Sunshine (Danny Boyle)
- Star Trek (JJ Abrams)
- Terminator Salvation (McG)
- Fifth Element (Luc Besson) (seems to be a fav among projector enthusiasts)
- Streetfighter: The Legend of Chun Li (drzej Bartkowiak)

Hope that gives some ideas!!!
Pretty good list, sunshine on a CRT is absolutely fabulous.
All truly great films are meant to be seen on a big ass screen, not just explosions, robots and men in spandex.
