Keep up the great work!

Jailguy,

Thanks for reviving this thread. That is pretty cool to find other locals interested in the same passion.

I wish I could post some more cool photos of the theater development. But with the new baby, work and finishing up the rest of the basement it just hasn't happened.

I did make use of the theater seats though. They are serving as temporary couches until the theater is completed.

Just to prove I'm not being lazy though...The lower bath is now finished except for a few items.

My pride and joy!

I had them make the glass tile border the larger 2x2's to make it look like a film strip around the shower wall.

I'm so jealous of your urinal!

I totally understand with the slow progress. I'm 2 1/2 years into my build and I still have a ways to go. I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old that take up most of my time, plus it is hard to be working in the basement in the summer when the weather is nice. I'm just excited that I had my carpet guy out to do a final measurement today.

Love the urinal too...! My brother in law installed one in his basement, and let me tell you besides being cool, that's how my kid learned how to standup and pee...!

Love the vanity too, where did you get that from?

I'm so stealing your bath design! Any info about that sink that you can share?

Tell me more about the screen shots you shared for the Elk M1. I do have a few Elk alarm systems but I like what I am seeing. What keypads are you using? thanks

The urinal has been a big hit thus far. I'll really get to test it out once I finish the bar area.
Still working on the final design for the front of the bar.

I pretty much missed this summer due to the theater and the basement. I finally got out and sanded and re-sealed our outdoor tables only to realize that the summer was over.

Carpet is a huge step!!!

We looked everywhere for a floating vanity. We eventually found one online:
http://www.modernbathroom.com

It's currently listed on the home page as Abba 48".

We ordered the granite vessel sink from there too.

The Elk is controlled using touch screens located around our home. I have a Cinemar AIO-Touch inwall touch screen and many other devices that allow me to view and control not only the Elk but just about everything else in the home.

There is one Elk keypad installed near the garage entry but it's not really used.

I've been developing our control software, Cinemar's MainLobby and MLServer, for almost 10 years now...man I can't believe it's been that long. The software really blossomed thanks to feedback from everyone here on the AVSForum.

I've personalized my install by integrating our house floorplan. I've just finished adding the lower level recently and placed all the lights onto the plan so I can see which lights are left on. Just click on the room to control any lights within that room.

Any updates, your house and theater build thus far is mind blowing!

Unfortunately not. This past weekend, I got the L-bracket supports in the bar area mounted and some of the rough construction done to prepare for the granite bar countertops coming hopefully later this week or early next week.

It took me a while to come with a design I liked for the face of the bar but I think I finally settled on something. I'm using cabinet doors to add a panel look. The rest of the columns will have to be constructed onsite.

We went with Cherry cabinetry and apparently the big box stores don't carry it. So it's a little more challenging to buy cherry, then try to match the stain color. Fortunately my father-in-law is an excellent painter.

I've planned for a recessed area below the counter top for led down lighting in front of each panel.

My friends who originally were working ont he theater have been pretty busy and I'd like to finish the bar and stairs leading into the basement before shifting them back to the theater. I think they have some time this week so hopefully I'll be back with more progress soon. I do need to spend a little time converting my 3D into actual plans so they have some dimensions to work with.

do you have a link to your shower light trim

Hi Scott,

I'm pretty sure I picked that in-shower light trim up at Home Depot by all their can lighting. It was the closest I could find to matching our brushed nickel...but it's plastic.

I ended up swapping out the Flood with a more diffused light. I noticed everytime you look up the flood light was blinding.

Mario,

Very nice cleanup job. Having installed a couple ELK M1s (I have one in my current house and love it), I was wondering what the white box at bottom-left sitting outside your cabinet is? It looks like the ethernet adapter box, but you have tons of wires going into it...

As for your problem with the glass breaks that aren't working... are you using EOL resistors? I don't see them in the pictures, but you may have hidden them along the lines. I tried setting up some zones (in my past house) without EOL and I had some "false" violated messages. When I added EOLs, the problems all went away.

Looking forward to more theater updates...

Just a follow-up to this.

I did finally figure out why some glass breaks weren't working. There's a tamper switch on the glass break. They designed the housing that the glass break slides into so you can only push it in one way in order to engage the tamper switch. If you slid it in the wrong way, it didn't work - although it fit fine. So I had a 50/50 chance of guessing which way it went in before I knew what to look for. Just wish the instructions indicated that.

There's movement!

The patch panel was framed up in the rear of the theater.

There'll be a hidden panel to cover the large opening or I'll put a movie poster frame in front to hide it.

I'm trying to figure out how to build the platform on top of the raised floor. I had them use double 3/4" OSB for the raised floor, but my question is: Do I need to build the second platform with double 3/4" OSB on top or would one layer of 3/4" work?

I plan to insulate it as well.

Finally got our pool table out re-assembled and re-felted. They also built the cherry soffit for the bar area. Bar counter tops arrive hopefully later this week.

Ah! Well, it's good news in that your wiring is good. Strange news that the instructions aren't clear.

Glad you figured it out!

That's gonna be one nice basement when you are done with everything. Liking the bar already.

Did they just put wood veneers over framing or how did they build it?

Thanks.

I ordered some extra stain when we ordered the cabinetry. Then we ordered a 4x8 sheet of cherry wood and my father-in-law stained it to match the cabinetry and then it was cut to fit. I'm waiting for another batch of stain to come in so we can finish out the cherry for the front of the bar.

Nothing dramatic to report today. But I did pick up all the materials to start the next phase of construction and layed down some roofing felt where we plan to construct the next level. I guess I'll go with two layers of 3/4" OSB for this next level as well just to be safe. I plan to separate them with the roofing felt as well.

I also ran some electric inside the patch panel so I could plug in a light while terminating all the cables.

What other systems besides MK did you look at, any major reasons why your going with them?

Hi Chase,

Honestly, I bought most of my M&K speakers probably about 8 - 10 years ago

Since owning them, I've never had the urge to look or listen to any other speakers. To my novice ears they sound great. They sounded better after adding the Onkyo receiver. And I have yet to connect them to the XPA amp which I'm hoping will allow me to push the envelope even further.

What is on the floor? The red/black stuff?

Excellent thread! I'm subscribed!

I am currently looking for a security system to replace my existing system, but I'd like to integrate it into a home automation system. Can you provide some more details on the ELK system? I am also very interested in the Cinemar system, but I don't know where to start.

Any details and FAQ/Implementation Guides are appreciated.
