Here's a pic of one of the rolls of EcoShield 1" recycled Denim.

What is the denim for?

We were able to get another layer of OSB added to the steps leading to the front row. Roofing felt was put in between the layers again. The front stage step OSB layer was also cut to fit. It actually worked out really nice since the front stage is just under 4' deep. So the remnant used from the top of the stage fit perfectly on the step below. He just traced the curve 11" away from the first cut. We used 1/2" MDF for behind the front row seating. I'll either paint it black or apply some type of fabric treatment to it. Probably just paint it black since it won't be visible.

Here are some pics of tonights activities.

I've never seen OSB look so good. A bonafide work of art.

Dying to see how closely the real thing resembles those amazing renderings...even though I still vote for the tan.

Thanks David. After a couple beers, my friend Brian's cuts really become more fluid.
Funny you should ask about it matching up with the renderings. Here's a composite image of the rendered room combined with the actual photo.

Looks like we've stuck pretty close the actual plan thus far.

No seats in the render:

This is one GORGEOUS looking theater my friend. Very nice. May I ask what the metal setup is in the first row? And what size your room is?

*Sorry I didnt read earlier, I just found this build. I am sure to read back through when i get a minute.

Thanks Iusteve,

My first post in this thread contains some plans that show all the room dimensions:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1208912

As Larry mentioned the metal structure is to support the 3 chairs in the front row for the DBox motion platform. This raises, shakes and rocks your world all synced to the movie.

Kidding, of course. I love big cars.

Looks cool. The rendering software still never ceases to amaze. The superimposed final product is sweet.

It's a careful balancing act.
But you can blame my wife since it's her's...although my truck isn't any better.

Awesome Build! Great project to follow. I hope to start my basement theater soon but yours will be the unobtainable dream for me right now. Subscribed! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for tagging along with me and good luck on your theater. It's a journey. While I didn't take advantage of it, I'd check out some of the pro services offered here on the forum from guys like Dennis. It would have been money well spent and saved me tons of research.

Officially moved about 500 lbs of sand last night. Only about a ton more to go.

Oh wow cant wait to see this finished. Maybe a youtube video for us when your done showing it in action?

#769 ·
You bet. I could shoot some video. I'll need to test it out prior to adding the top layer of 3/4" osb to it before carpeting so I can fine tune how much perimeter I'll need to allow the platform to move. I'd like the carpet to be as seamless as possible between the platform deck and the riser.

Yeah - I ended up deciding to keep that just because it helped with the look of the stage. I wanted two steps on the front stage. If I bumped the stage up another 7" I wouldn't be able to fit a sub in the front middle of the room and still squeeze under the screen.

#772 ·
I finished filling up half the stage with sand last night. Looks like I'll be about 7 bags short to complete the other half. The sand from Lowe's was all dry which was nice.

While I know the plastic is there to contain the sand, am I trying to completely seal the top so no water can penetrate in? Or should I just be more worried about creating a bottom shell? I imagine once two layers of 3/4" cover the top, that water would ever find it's way into it.

#773 ·
I finished emptying all of the remaining sand bags into the other half of the stage. Looks like I'm about 10 bags shy. So I'll pick those up tonight and finish that phase up.

I need to zero in on the construction of the false screen wall next.

For the some of the side walls, If I'm putting one inch acoustic material on the wall, should I furring out the wall exactly 1" or should I plan for 1.25" to make sure the material doesn't push against the GOM fabric?

Another composite image I created blending reality with vision:
