I just saw this thread and thought I would add in my observations/thoughts re HP's. I had the original 2.8 version (110x62) for ~2-3 yrs and liked it very much (for all the reasons that you all...

Very good point, Mark. I have Mark Seaton Catalysts for L/C/R, and a Seaton SubMersiveHP sub, all of which have their own internal (and ample) amps. The only thing I need the for amps in the AVR...

Yes, I think the HP2.4 is somewhat better than the 2.8: a somewhat wider viewing cone, and also (to my eye) a smoother pic. I had a 2.8 for 2-3 yrs, and liked it very much, and now have had a 2.4...

With JVC, it makes sense to me to skip a year between 'upgrades'. I had a RS1 for 2 yrs, then a RS20 for 2 yrs, and have now (thanks to your encouragement) gone with a Sony1000/1100 for 3 yrs, and...

One aspect of the 1100/1000ES that is very important for my arrangement is its very short min throw ratio, ~1.27 (JVC's are 1.4, as I think many others also are). This is presumably due to its...

Reminds me of all the 'wobulation' discussion, ~ 10 yrs ago, that got '1080p' by doubling a lesser signal.

So true, Mark. The Sony 1000/1100 has certainly quenched my biannual JVC upgradeitasis, but if I give up my large Berkeley house and move into a smaller abode--that might necessitate a smaller...

Blueskies, I have a 2.0 screen (144x72) and as you describe, for 16x9 pics I zoom to fill the height (and have back bars on the sides), and for 2.35 I zoom to fill the width, and have a black bar...

I think that's exactly it. Let's face it--it is quite a bit more hassle to set up a projector, screen, speakers, etc., than simply plugging in a tv and turning it on. We, of course, love the...

Also interesting. I went from a 110x62 2.8 screen to a 144x72 (128x72 for 16x9, and 144x61 for 2.35) 2.4 one.

Interesting. I had a 2.8 for a couple of yrs, and a 2.4 now for a couple. I liked the 2.8 just fine, but to me the 2.4 gives a smoother pic. Without a side-by-side, though, I would not testify...

The min throw distance is determined by your projector, not the screen (other than its size). The only important aspect of the projector's location with an HP screen is to have it projecting as low...

Agreed; get one as wide as your room (or you) can take, and then doing all the arithmetic is fun: 16x9 (UHD), 17x9 (4K), and 21x9 ('2.35').
