I get the impression that the Sony produces a more "natural" looking image even if its blacks are not as good. I've even heard the Sonys look a tad more natural than the JVCs.

They can be fussy with HDMI. My RS4810 has sync issues at times with my Oppo 103D going through my Denon X3000 receiver to projetor.

I've heard mixed things on their reliability. I'm not sure.

Every manufactured product is going to have a very small percentage of defects. Sony, I believe, is one of the better in that regard. It just sucks when you fall into that minority.

But wasn't Laser Disc in the same situation? A niche that lasted years? That's how I see UHD Blu. Physical media is shrinking, but I think it's going to be around a while yet.

I agree there will probably be no new UHD projectors under $8K this fall, but I wonder how much R&D Epson will be able to re-coup this year and it seems as if the LS10000 is close to be UHD (all...

I would pass on it. I would just spend the money on one of the better LEDs even if the screen size is smaller than 85". The 2010 Panasonic plasmas also had issues with rising blacks although not...

Yes, for a 2:35 screen you'll have to zoom 2:35 movies to fill the screen or use a lens and video processor.

I'm not sure what you mean by black bars on all 4 sides of a 2:35 Blu movie though....

Yep, important question.

I thought all of these studio 4K masters are already DCI-P3. Not sure why they wouldn't include it on a disc...but they might also use it for double dipping down the...

Craig,

Would you say if one were to look for a gain higher than 1.0 (like the ST100) that the ST130 would be the next best option? I know there are a lot of screens out there.

So, are we probably looking at late 2017 for a true UHD Projector at $5K street price from JVC, Sony, or Epson? I'm getting the sense it will not happen even in 2016.

From my understanding UHD Blu-ray will be using 100 gig discs at some point (not sure if this will be the case initially - much the same way dual layered 50 gig discs were not out...

More and more people are buying larger screens, so 65"+ is not going to be that unusual. If you walk into any Best Buy store, there is now an array of 70-80" screens. The future of TV is larger...

LOA was filmed in 65mm so it has even more potential for improvement via UHD in terms of better detail. Let's also not forget that UHD BD will probably be using DCI-P3 which is a notably wider color...

If you don't really see much more sparkle on the 1.1 vs the 0.9, I would probably go with the 1.1 in your case. No question the 1.1 is a lot brighter. The extra brightness could help at some point...

I think in that case, it's more of an exception vs the norm but high definition content (Blu-ray, for example) is calibrated to rec 709. You want your display to be as close as possible i.e., delta...
