I would stick to Audyssey recommendations and only do it in the AVR, otherwise you mess up the filters in place. That advice sounds like it is from someone who has never used Audyssey.

Why not just adjust the subs under audio settings and then subwoofer level for blu ray, and then do the same on your cable/sat and then you can have a different level on each setting?
