I was under that impression too, however if the power amplifier, like my Crown XLS, has an input sensitivity of 1.4v you need one. Not all power amps require 1.4v though so just check for that.

I currently own a Denon and I absolutely love it! It sounds great and has plenty of power no matter which Denon model you choose. I may be a bit biased but if I were you I would pick a Denon.

THX's recommendation is to cross all of them over at 80hz, I have the ES150 also and have my sub set for LFE mode and the receiver's crossover set to 80hz and it sounds good to me

If you must go with 2 subs, try looking at getting two BIC F12's or two JBL ES250's. The JBL has quite a bit of output and is great for HT so two of those should do alright in your room.
