I disconnected the speaker wires, and the amp didn't shut off when i ran up the volume. I re-installed the speaker wire, and now it works OK.

This is my first AV receiver after being into stereo audio for over 40 years, and I forgot the basic's.

I have been OTA for many years. I am happy with it the way it is right now, and instead of creating a more complex signal, they should try to get more broadcasts with greater signal strength.
