Yes, you can use the 1712 but only for 1 set of speakers as it does not have multi analog inputs for each speaker, rather only 2CH analog inputs. Set the 1712 surround mode to DIRECT or PURE.

Huh? Both the NR1604 (the topic of this thread) and the NR1504 also have FL/FR pre-outs. In most cases, most owners will never require pre-outs, but if they did, powering only the FL/FR speakers...

The SR7009 can provide 125W into 2CH and likely closer to 90W/CH when driving 5 or 7 speakers. You won't likely need the Rotel unless you want to expand to 11CH or externally power Zones 2 or 3.
