I think there is a factory reset or something...

I think there is a factory reset or something similar in the setup menu, might say reset to defaults, can't remember exactly what it's called, but it is in menu system somewhere.

Yeah that seems to be a steep price for an old tv, and since it's a 2009 model, might have issues with rising black levels. I would steer clear of it.

Every panel seems to be unique in regards to IR. My U50 after about 4000 hours still gets it. I can lessen it by keeping contrast to around 50. Not sure if those images will help with IR but I guess...

Only going by memory here, but I think the u54 was a costco type variant of the panel, maybe lacking the game mode of the u50, other than that the same panel. As for gamma presets, there are none....

Good question.... I'm not sure where they are meant to be put, never used one myself. Have noticed they always come packaged with any new plasma that I have bought though lol.
