Most AVR/Prepro can have video pass through if you do not want any upscaling. Most will set it up going through the AVR so it can decode the bitstreaming audio (DTS Master and Dolby HD).

Optical connection would still be digital. .....the only way for improvement would be to have the motherboard use its DAC convert to analog and pass that to analog inputs on a Receiver or PrePro........

Shouldn't take an hour to rip a BD in MakeMKV........I can rip a BD in about 30/35 minutes tops........ALL depends on CPU you have and if your BD drive had Riplock on it which is easily taken care of...
