Update:

After raising the SAD level up to 148, the problem is now completely gone. I've been watching the TV for several days, and there has been no sign whatsoever of the red blotches/sparkles. :)

I finally had a chance to view this set at Best Buy yesterday. Very impressive picture! Other than perhaps a little more blooming, I think the overall picture is better than my Sharp Elite.
