Turns out my monitor supports SBS 3D viewing. Only that it is only available with HDMI. I was using DVI and that's why I didn't see the option.

Unfortunately, my monitor does not have the option....

I think you are right. "Nova" happened to repeat a lot of times and I recorded the same program on an SD channel and the sound is normal. Wish I can find out how to make the sound normal again.

Turns out the issue is caused by the volume key. The key might have stuck internally. I pressed them a few times and the problem went away.

Answering my own question. Turns out PlayReady is the key.

Even removing WMC and reinstalling WMC does not work. But it worked after I agreed to update PlayReady.

Guess what? By using a different HDMI port from the same TV, the laptop detects 1360x768 and uses it. And image is a lot sharper. Apparently, the HDMI ports on the TV are not created equal.
