Mine is connected with hdmi too a Motorola box. I think mine is in the advanced menu too.So it seems like it does not affect anything when watching cable tv.Thanks for clearing it up(no pun intended).

In cablebox menu there is a selection for sharpness of 1-5.I believe 3 is a neutral setting(neither on or off)and I think it defaults at 3. I'm wondering if this setting effects standard definition...
