My bad. Forgot Netgear did make the change to the Wan port. Makes it easier. Im old school in converting routers to AP's. When you manually set one up you dont use the Wan port.

If you are using the R7000 as an access point you must connect the ethernet from your modem/router to one of the switch ports not the wan port. The R7000 will see everything in your network then.

I would keep the 7000 and just buy a modem. Keeping the modem and router separate saves a lot of hassle when you want to update a router down the road. The R7000 is still one of the best routers...
