I use a Yamaha which accepts 24/192 on HDMI, as most should. Note that 24/192 can only be stereo, 5.1 is not possible.

Oppo support can only really tell you if the disc itself is faulty somehow,...

Well, there's no issue here with that disc, so the AVR is the main suspect. Try some 24/192 files on a USB drive and see what happens.

I'll guess that this might be a color space issue, and you'll need to leave processing on in the AVR to send the TV what it can receive. Check with Oppo support to see what its putting out at 4K.

You're pretty much all wet there. Not exactly sure what you're on about, but if its caved in dust caps, (the little dome in the center of the speaker), this is by no means "normal" and is only caused...

Doesn't improve image quality. What it does is "punch up" images that are already high quality.

Have you updated the firmware on the 2040? I think that's needed in order to pass some color space types at 4K.

I have a copy of that DVD-A. The stereo high-res tracks are 24/192, the 5.1 is 24/96. Could be that your AVR cannot accept 24/192. I have no issues playing that disc here, both type tracks play fine.
