OK. I really dont know what to make of it then, except to say that it sounds like there is room for improvement. Wonder if this is this a common short coming. Just ordered a RX-A2040 that was on...

Ill be looking forward to hearing some feedback. My gut feel is that Oppo doesent apply any, or less than 5db attenuation to the LFE channel before summing, resulting in digital clipping if the...

The argument is to maintain the signal to noise ratio as much as possible. Maybe in reality its a non issue on the subwoofer channel. Im not really sure what approach is the best. I have experimented...

I will do that if enough channels are at 0dbfs. However i tend to think that there is some merit to the idea that we are not likely to ever see at signal like the one used to test the player and I...

Agreed. I'm just pointing out that its kind of meaningless discussing the Oppo player in light of the diagram when it can be calculated that its not a representation of what the player actually does...

No. The diagram clearly show that LFE is attenuated 5db before summing and the other channels is attenuated 15db before summing. Assuming two signals at 0dbfs and all other channels at minus infinity...

Coherent signals only sum to +6db if they are at equal level. In this instance one signal is 10db hotter than the other because one is attenuated 15db and the other is attenuated 5db. The sum of...

Yes. Agreed. There should be some room for redirected bass even if LFE is at 0dbfs. Then why cant the Oppo Player handle even one channel of redirected bass, when both channels is at 0dbfs. I would...

It is correct. The diagram is showing +15db gain. That cancels out the -5db LFE gain, leaving no room for redirected bass if LFE is at 0dbfs, according to your interpretation.

EDIT: Ahh! I see it...

^^ I really cant see how you can conclude that from that diagram. According to your interpretation a LFE signal recorded at 0dbfs would leave zero db headroom for redirected bass (the -5db gain is...
