what if you extend the image a bit and put small markers around the edge that would guide in keeping it straight? you would never see the markers because they would be on the sides?

I think I'm in the same camp as your wife. No fuss = win.

My WDTV is basically a dumb DLNA client but it does nail uncompressed blu-ray which is a key win.
