I would try something simple that can be returned if it doesn't work. Such as an antenna from Lowes...

Try a different usb drive, format it correctly first, then put the update on it and try it again. They can be touchy and not like certain sticks - maybe even a different brand usb.

Check and see if it has the "ports" on the sides. If it does you can remove one of them and look in at A. the light engine lens (see if dirty or smudge there - I like to look when it is lit), B....

Voodoo is that on all inputs or just one?

Does your model have the ports in the sides? If so, pull one and look at the projector while the tv is on, it might just be dirt on the projector lens.
