I got a set of those rubber adhesive backed feet...

I got a set of those rubber adhesive backed feet & stuck them on the underside of mine, seems to help with a bit more airflow under it, haven't seen any heat issues.

Try changing the speaker setting to "small"....

Try changing the speaker setting to "small". That will cause your receiver to route the bass information to your sub out, which should turn it on when it senses a signal it needs to reproduce.
