Most possibly the placements. I heard MAs, paradigms & B&W & KEFs ( not the R series). All of them have their own sound signatures, but none of them was significantly better than the others.

Yeah, I owned Mirage speakers in the past. They sound great only when you keep a lot of room around them. With your placement, I think it would be a good idea to look for front ported speakers .
