I don't think we should let this notion about 12 foot ceilings etc take root. Dolby have said all along that Atmos will work with typical ceiling heights of 8 feet.

I am sure that there are all manner of kludges and workarounds which may, or may not, work. It just seems much easier to me to buy Atmos Dolby-approved modules or speakers in the first place. Then...

It's the one thing putting me off trying Auro. I just can't be bothered to make and reload two different configs, one for Atmos and another for Auro, each time I want to use Auromatic instead of DSU,...

I have always wanted to try Dirac, Al, but until now there hasn't been a really suitable way for me to do so. I am interested in how much difference it will make being a mixed-phase solution which...

Ordered. Thanks. Looks good.

Another you might like is Joe, with Nicolas Cage in what must be his best performance for years.

I usually watch a dozen Hitchcock's a year. I never tire of them.

Yes, I can't argue with that choice.

I will check it out this very moment - thanks.

What a great idea - a track that just plays the good bits. They ought to offer that on all Blurays ;) The thing with Burlesque is that even when there isn't any singing and dancing, there is still...

I have had flagship processors and I currently have an AVR which feeds all-external amps. IMO there is no audible sonic difference between them.

I'd forget using XLR. Unless you have a noise issue, they have no sonic advantages over RCA. It seems odd to use XLR on the sub and then put a 6dB pad in - you may as well just use RCA and be done...

In that case, Selden, you should like one of my own favorite guilty pleasures: Burlesque. Eye candy is gloriously high, music is great, dancing is great. Acting, bar Stanley Tucci, is execrable.

As Selden says, that may not be a good idea. XLR output is 6dB higher than RCA. In my own system, which is in a small room, with reasonably sensitive speakers and gruntolicious amplification, if I...

I think you are gtg :) In all my conversations with Dolby about optimum ceiling height they confirmed each time that a typical 8 ft ceiling would be fine.

'Slightly above' ear height is the most common Dolby recommendation I think. At the two Atmos demos I went to at Dolby Labs, they had all the listener level speakers at ear height though. This is...

I've never seen anything like that in over 1200 hours on my 5030. Nor could I tolerate it. What settings are you using and what is your screen? Is it an acoustically transparent screen by any chance?
