You're right. Jensen folks are transformer experts and they know what they are talking about. Their transformer you mentioned is dead flat to 4hz and 3dB down at 0.2Hz (!) Low distortion as well....

Completely enclosing the sub in a cabinet, if that's what you want to not advisable at all. You'd be placing obstacles(cabinet doors) in front of the subwoofer which doesn't make sense from a bass...

Ummm, FYI .... the PB16 does have XLR inputs and outputs just like the SB16s. They both use the same exact plate amp, so it's the cabinet volume and ports that gives the PB16 an advantage in low-end...
