Cut the wall board out behind you plasma and mount you wall mount directly to the stud. It will hug your set up close to the wall. Just be cautious on not blocking any ventilation.

FWIW I have a 50" PDP wall mounted at the 48" height and it resides on a wall that is 20' in height. It does not look out of place at all....
