Technicolor is working on SDR-to-HDR conversion in their set-top boxes and apparently it looks / works really well. Considering most legacy content is in SDR, I suspect these chips will end up being...

I know, right?

There are other ways to test input lag at any resolution, they're just harder to reproduce reliably and there is no standardization.

The Leo Bodnar lag meter unfortunately works...

Honestly, as a game dev, I think 120hz 1080p + HDR10 would give a far better experience than 60hz at UHD, except maybe in very slow paced games.

Too bad nobody can confirm or deny whether 120hz...

HDR means more realistic looking scenes, even if it's "poor" HDR it's still way better than SDR any day of the week.
HDR means 10-bit.
10-bit means no banding.
UHD means 10-bit and HDR10 and P3...

Kraine measured the lag at 30ms on the 4040, so it's probably the same. I think e-shift adds some lag but we'll have to wait until someone measures that. (Leo Bodnar lag meters only work at 1080p).

That is not what he said, at all. He said that he prefers Dolby Vision at 4k than HDR10 at 1k nits, and nowhere did he say it's a "joke". Either in this year or any other. He also said that he'd...

Hello Kraine, thanks for the review, very in depth as usual.

I'd like to ask a few questions:

1) Does HDR10 work at 1080p?
2) Does 1080p allow 120hz in RGB?
3) If not in RGB, can you try...

Informative interview.

But to clarify one thing, there is already a standard for 12-bit HEVC : it's just another profile, called, not surprisingly "Main 12" instead of "Main 10".
