Opinions are like... well you know the rest. But IMO medium sized speakers are just fine. You don't want to go to small. Large would be great, but mostly not needed.

I would run wires if you can. Then just get a basic receiver with 2 zones which most have any more. Get one with an RF remote so you can take the remote outside with ya. That's what I do.
