HDMI and optical to a TV will provide the same quality audio. Which setting provides the best audio (or even if it makes a difference) is best decided by you as you're the one listening. ;)

HDMI handshake issues with Verizon boxes and all brands of AVRs is very common. The work around is connecting HDMI to the TV with optical from the box to the AVR.

That depends on what sources you want to listen to, although most common way is likely to connect to the Zone 2 pre-outs and connect any HDMI source also with an analog audio cable.

I tested this feature with my Android phone only for a few minutes to ensure it worked as Wifi is much more app friendly for me so perhaps others can chime in with more extended Bluetooth pairing...

Why not? Buy a mic and do MCACC. Also, review the Owner's manual and reset the microprocessor to restore all settings to factory default as former owner's MCACC settings are probably being used.

Unlike older D&M models ... the new 2014 models play the test tones at the master volume level of the AVR, so you'll need to raise the volume to at least 50/-30db or so to hear them.
