Don't get your hopes up. WMC will not play any part in Windows 10, so we're going to have to stay with 7 or 8.1 (if you've bought it), to carry on using it. If you want the 'TV Experience', MS will...

WHS2011 + Stablebit Drivepool + Good backup plan. Been bulletproof in the time I've been using it. No parity to worry about (be that good or bad), but it works well and performance is great.

ReFS is very new, but has potential. At this stage of its development though, I wouldn't use it for a production system. NTFS has its limitations, but it's a known quantity, and troubleshooting...

WMC/LAV problem

A couple of months ago, I decided I wanted to use LAV as the standard decoder in WMC for HD video on my main HTPC. It wasn't difficult to setup (there are plenty of guides), and sure enough, without...

The Chromecast is, as it's name suggests, a device designed to 'cast' what can be seen on connected devices to a TV. It's not an all singing device like a Fire TV or Roku 3. What it does though, it...

Another marketing gimmick more likely. One more thing to try and distance Windows 10 as far away from Windows 8 as possible.

Fair point. I was more thinking of SmartTV's to be honest, where you might be streaming 4K. As long as the 4K BD player has HEVC support, and the TV has HDMI2.0 (or ideally, HDMI2.2) you should be...

For those interested, my suspicions were correct. The 2014.2 firmware was too new for the SEK-1000. I had to roll back to 0000, then upgrade back to 2009.2, re-connect the Evo Kit and after...

First, 4k blu-ray will be out at the end of next year at the earliest. The BD association also haven't even announced the full specification requirements yet, so TV's released now are not guaranteed...

I can only recommend you have a look at MB3 now. It is outstanding, with new features coming thick and fast. MBT is still in early development, but MBC + MBS is a great combination.

Still using WMC on my main HTPC (windows 7) for all live TV. Some is archived off to my 10TB WHS2011 server for playback elsewhere. I'm liking more and more of what I see with the TV integration...

Certainly there's a USB EK firmware download (about 1.1GB), specifically for upgrading over USB. The TV does inspect the USB key, but then decides it can't find anything. I'm seriously thinking that...

I'm having the exact same issue with my PS51E8000, except with the SEK-1000 EK. Plugged in the kit ok, TV detects kit, gets to 100%, then says no firmware available. I normally run this TV over a...

Only ever tried a GPU once, and it was not a good experience - lots of judder and iffy acceleration (ie, far higher CPU usage than expected), but I admit that was a few years ago now. I've just got...

Even if MS do include native MKV support, and allow DTS/DD bitstreaming within the container, it's never going to come close to what MPC-HC/LAV/MadVR can achieve. That combination of tools is almost...

There are many theories, but only MS know the truth.

Personally, I feel they wanted to wipe the slate clean with Windows 8. Draw a line if you like, and by moving ahead two versions, try and make...

Windows 10 - MKV, FLAC and HEVC

For those who haven't already read this, it's reported that Windows 10 will have native MKV, FLAC and HEVC support out of the box. I'm assuming we'll get DXVA acceleration for HEVC and whatever is in...

Always go for some type of 'managed' switch. If you need to troubleshoot or see what's going on, unmanaged switches are useless. Agree with getting a named brand - HP Procurve's are great by the way.

For people on these forums, yes, we'd almost certainly build our own - selecting the ideal components we want. For the masses (expect >99%), they don't do this. They'll just go into a shop and -...
