The couch is not the problem. The room has reverb properties that are not address by autocalibration. Pioneer Elite avr's have a reveb function that helps to a point.

PEQ may be needed with a sub to cut peaks and dips to get a more even reponse. Also, if using a sub, run the speakers as small and some of the problems of blending the mains and sub will disappear.

Mounting them to the frame is fine it you are on a wood base floor. I am in a basement on concrete. I mounted the shakers to large boards and used zip ties to secure the board to the couch springs....
