I think most people are used to flat because that's all there's been used their whole life. Flat has problems too like making the center appear larger and corners are slightly less focused....

My guess is that 3,000 lumen is before light engine loss which can amount to as little as 10% light on the screen. You can shut off LEDs, so INFINITE contrast!
