I have over 1400 hours on my Sony 1100ES and never experienced flicker. I switched over to high lamp mode at around 800 hours.

He probably has electric already in his attic for lighting, so running power to a new ceiling box won't be that hard. Running a long HDMI is more involved.

Heck, I think that I paid nearly $1K for my Sony S7000 DVD player when it first hit the marker. It's the one with the drop down front and a hardware switch inside for regions. It still works. I've...

Agreed, especially with the royally part. Which begs the question of why would Sony provide the option for P3 (with filter) if there was never going to be a way to use it? Given that movies shown...

Not a problem for my HTPC since I run everything through JRiver MC20 (and MadVR). It has options to switch display settings based on source, so my desktop is always 1080p for easy reading and most...

And my point is that 4K TV owners aren't likely to adapt UHD-BD media quickly as a percentage of owners. The bulk of them will be watching Netflix/Amazon/etc., cable/FIOS/DirecTV, and DVDs/BDs that...

Sure, at some point soon you won't be able to buy a 1080p display, but that doesn't mean that those buying a 4K display will also buy into UHD-BD. You need a large display to see the impact of 4K. ...

True, but given that I already have a Sony 1100, I felt that a disc based media with higher res, 10 to 12 bits, and P3 (all of which are supported by the Sony) would be a good option for any new...

I'm not panicking, but if what I'm reading here is true, then I think UHD-BDs will be still-born. Don't know about anyone else, but for me, if UHD-BDs require internet authentication (even one time)...

I'd take a refund as a first choice, a swap for a future UHD-BD second, and an even swap of the X1 for the X10 third. Sony needs to do something to remedy this and soon.

In retrospect, even if Sony magically delivered on my previous requirements for a trade-in, I think Thrang is spot on in this suggestion. I'd trade in the X1 toward a Sony UHD-BD player (or a Sony...
