The Salon2 is the speaker I would upgrade to, if I had that kind of cash.
But I'll have to make do with my MJC212s. Of the speakers I've auditioned the last few years, only the Salons were better.

30* will only provide a better soundstage IF there is enough space between the speakers and the sidewalls. As you mentioned, 30* could be too close to those walls.

I was in a HT shop a few years...

For surround height, try 15* above your ears, when seated.
If your seat is 7 ft from the surrounds, then 23" above your ear to the tweeter.
If they are 10 ft away, then it would be 32" ft above.

I have never heard any ID subs so be they designed for HT or music, I do not know. Maybe some of them do both.
The PB12 is the only JBL sub (of the ones I've had or auditioned) that did not do music...

You are certainly free to disagree....but many in the industry would agree with me on using paired subs.
Its true that using EQ or the sub's volume controls will level match...but that has nothing...

As for sub pairs, they should be identical subs.
I would think the Studio 1 might be too much of a sonic mis-match for the S series.

Which still depends on the width of the room. 15* from 5 ft away would be 16" above ear level....@ 7 ft its 22" above, which is what my tweeters are above my head @ 60" above the floor.

Check out the JBL 500 series, in particular, the 590 with dual 8" bass drivers...usually around $1000/ea
That series has horn HF that has to be heard to be believed, with a great soundstage.

Towers could go right in front of where the walls come forward. That would leave room to place the gear/bookshelves.

Or get a quality soundbar.

Why do you think you need to replace it? Only because its sealed?
With dual 6.5" woofers, I would not call it wimpy.
