I've seen reports that the ones they are selling now are quieter, but I don't know. Mine were obnoxiously loud, but a quick, cheap and easy fan swap solved that.

needs to be XLR or 1/4 " TS . I made the mistake of using TRS and had the same problem the OP has. Switched to XLR adapter and problem resolved.
