The HT18 has higher distortion than LMS but people don't notice distortion as offensive as they do in higher frequencies. So probably why no one cares.

I can understand what you are saying. That upper end snap is that midbass fun that hurts your chest . And it's nice if it's quick/fast and accurate with a good dynamic range (lack of compression)....

Well second layers of sheet rock is also "expensive" too.

The hardest part of a basement theater is the walking above the floor. Need to tie the joists together if you can to fix that.
